Hi there,

My name's Stephen, and welcome to my site! I hope if you’ve found your way here you appreciate either travel or trivia as much as I do!

I’ve had the travel bug for longer than I can remember and am soon to be visiting my 100th country. I have collected far more than stamps on my passport however, each place I visit has been the recipient of an interesting tidbit and coveted entry in my trusty travel notebook. It may sound a bit grand, but I’ve learned that in every place I step foot, there is often an interesting piece of trivia behind each famous landmark or hidden gem.

Through travelling and researching the facts I’ve learnt, I quickly realised that there was nowhere online that mixed travel tips with the interestingly quirky facts about different destinations I kept discovering — and so @factsandfootsteps was born. This is not just another travel guide, but also a place to discover random quirky facts about each place I have visited. It could be the tale of a little-known tradition, an interesting landmark detail or a silly bit of historical trivia; in any case, I hope you have a slightly richer and more curious travel experience as a result.

I also want to share some tips I have found genuinely helpful. All of this is based on my personal experiences; and you will find survival advice ranging from ideal equipment to the best-kept secrets not travelled by mainstream tourists. Keeping true to first-hand experience, for now it will only be the countries that I have been to. I will also include pictures taken by yours truly — so you can be part of the lived experiences for any recommendation I talk about.
